Ruglud's Armoured Orcs

Just in time for the end of Orctober, here is my regiment of 21 Ruglud's Armoured Orcs:

Here's the command group, the banner is taken from a Fighting Fantasy illustration in the Masks of Mayhem:

And the two main characters, both of whom appear in the Gonlinoid Combat Card deck, of which I'm working my way through slowly..:

Phew, that was a bit of a struggle, painting an entire unit in a month. Thankfully my colour choices and painting processes kept it quite quick and simple, it was the basing that was a pain in the arse. Now onto something different...

  4. That's a fearsome bunch of orcs, the rust weathered look gives them the intimidating appearance of battle hardened veterans .. "ded 'ard" as the greenskins say. I can imagine the banner might be a looted trophy, a tapestry or illustrated manuscript plundered along the way, these really fire the imagination. I like these a lot.

    1. Thank you! I imagine Orcs to have trophies rather than banners, but I couldn't resist an illustration to go with them. Perhaps looted or "commissioned"?

  5. They are absolutely excellent! They're giving me nostalgia to reading through Warhammer Armies as a kid.

  6. Incredible! I think this might be my favorite skin-tone I've ever seen orcs painted in.

    1. Thanks - there's just enough green but at the same time I prefer it muted.

    1. Wow thank you! It's a great feeling when a unit is completed, maybe like finishing a canvas?

    1. Thanks Suber, I was frankly amazed that I didn't burn out when painting batches of the same Orc models, but I got there! It's rare for me to complete a unit and that was the motivation!

  11. They really are iconic miniatures and the sculpts and backstory one of the best from GW from that period.
