3 little Marauder Goblins by Trish Carden

Over on the Oldhammer Facebook page, Trish Carden from Marauder Miniatures fame has been posting the original green sculpts of many of her models. To celebrate her work and contribution, JB has suggested we all paint up some of her miniatures from back in the day, under the hashtag, #makeatrish.

I already have a unit of those Marauder Goblins (only missing one for the entire collection of sculpts) and saw this as a perfect opportunity to paint a few of them up for this celebration. It's always nice to have an additional reason to paint up some of my collection.

These are 3 of my favourite sculpts from the series and I chose 3 because I wanted to make sure I got them completed in time and anything more than that would have led me down the path of tedious batch painting. (I'll leave that for a future painting session).

So here they are, showing a bit of courage  in numbers...

They were painted in one evening and based in another. Pretty quick to work on as there was only a limited palette and once the skin and metal are done, there's very little left to paint!
This is a classic pose with raised weapon and shield, but I like how he's hiding behind his shield and how his chainmail hood pretty much covers his eyes. Of course it's great that he's armed with an old hammer.
This one has a less obvious pose, a goblin with an additional weapon! Brave not to be hiding behind a shield!. He's also got a sly intelligence to his face which I think is typical of a Goblin.
Finally my favourite of the three. He's got a great dynamic pose with the sword resting on the shield ready to attack and he has the most evil looking face of the three with those pointy ears and nose. A little snarl in the right side of his mouth is perfect.

So if you weren't aware of Trish's sculpting you are now and of course there's many other classic Marauder and GW sculpts that she's created for us to paint. I have about another 20 odd to go from this range!

To do in 2019 (aka preparing myself to fail)

It's highly unlikely that I will paint any of these before a new idea/model/miniature jumps to the forefront, but just in case I do, here's what I plan to paint during the coming year.

I hope that priming them makes them a step closer to being painted (and also moves them from the "to assemble drawer" to the "to paint drawer").

Whadya see?

3rd Edition Chaos Allied Contingent

I've completed my 3rd Edition Chaos Allied Contingent and finally got around to taking some photographs of them set up amongst my terrain:

Here's each of the unit in a bit more detail and a link if you want to see more about each faction:

Chaos Allied Commander

Renegade Chaos Dwarves

Chaos Dwarf Warmachines

Chaos Dwarf Beserkers

 Minotaurs

Centaurs

Cheers and I'm glad that's done. Lots of different stuff (largely scenery) to show next....

Chaos Allies - Chaos Dwarf Beserkers

These have been half painted for an age, so I forced myself to sit down and paint over the weekend, as I've had a barren time and little enthusiasm for the paint brush recently. These Marauder Slayer models have been re-purposed as Chaos Dwarf Beserkers to join my Chaos Allied force (the Contingent Commander - visible in the background - can be seen here).

I love the character of these sculpts, even though there are typical Marauder features with the too large hands and feet and I figured that with a colourful approach to the painting and by tying them in with the basing that they would sit comfortably amongst my other Chaos models.

I hope I've got a bit of my painting mojo back, but my next few posts will show me adding my already painted Centaurs and Minotaurs to the force whilst I continue painting some of the Citadel Chaos Dwarfs to complete the contingent.

Frostgrave Bestiary Challenge: Wolves

Just 3 Marauder wolves lined up for you. White undercoats, wet blended with greys, browns and yellows; highlighted up and details in the facial features added.

Important note: check Google images in advance, I wasn't expecting lighter underbelly's which goes against my normal painting logic (ie all darker colours are underneath because the sun is above).

Retinue Table: D6 Goblins (Blag's Unnamed and Rusty)

As usual I seem to jump between several projects and even though it is Orctober (and I still have 3 unifinshed Orcs for the warband that need to be completed) I couldn't resist the allure of finishing some of my favourite Marauder Goblins to add to my Lost and The Damned Retinue table challenge.

Here's the leader of the group, Blag the Sure, threatening all with his might and courage, in the hope that one may step forward and challenge him - even if he only a level 5. (He has yet to be in a challenge, but he feels ready).

Oozit the Tricksta (quite possibly one of my favourite ever Goblin sculpts - he looks so menacing and grumpy) is an Illlusionist Goblin Shaman, seen here getting angry as one of his comrades interrupts his preparation to cast Illusion of Foe:

And the rest of the warband, the Unnamed and Rusty. They know how to try and intimidate their foes (it's all bravado) and they only half believe in strength of numbers:

And a group shot of the 6 Goblins of Blag's The Unnamed and the Rusty, ready to be called into action by any self-respecting Nurgle Champion for his retinue or Orc General for part of his mercenary contingent:

When I've finished the other 3 Orcs (maybe this weekend) I'll post a group shot of the completed Orctober Orc & Goblin Warband....

Ebay Adventures

I definitely spend more time than money on ebay (thankfully I don't win everything I bid on) and most of my small amount of purchases over the years are impulsive, ie a bargain or just something that I vaguely want to have in my collection. Sometimes this is a model that i once owned and then sold many years ago, or more often a miniature that I coveted from my youth. Often this is a model I saw in the pages of White Dwarf from an 'Eavy Metal article or painted for Golden Demon or of course showcased in the Realm of Chaos books or Warhammer Armies book.

I've never spent a good chunk of money in one go, until last week.... There are two miniatures which I have never owned and which I have always wanted, so I stopped making any small purchases and saved some money up to splash out on these two miniatures, both of which I knew from watching ebay would not go for a bargain (although one went for a lot less than I was expecting.

Here they are safely delivered and unpacked:

Yes the Marauder Giant and the Great Spined Dragon!! Both were won in auctions during the same week, oh how my nerves were frayed during those last few countdown minutes on ebay, would someone snipe me? No!

So the Marauder giant is missing his sword, but that does not bother me a great deal. He cost me £21 and I feel 15 again! I'm planning a paintscheme in homage to Paul Robins 1991 Golden Demon winning entry with the ripped leggings:

The Great Spined Dragon seems in pristine condition (I can't help but worry that it's a recast, but it seems not my untrained eye) and is a model that I have been pining for for some time. He cost me £57 which I think is a bargain (the missus wouldn't) and I get the impression the seller was disappointed with the final total as he did not respond to any of my communication... Anyway I plan to do a slightly less plague like, but still slightly "tatty" version of the model below (sans the rider).

I doubt either paintjob will happen in the near future as they join a quite lengthy paint queue, but for now I'm just so happy to have both models in my collection, at last.

Retinue Table: D8 Chaos Dwarfs

So whilst I've been uploading all my recent images, this is what I've been working on in the background - Chaos Dwarfs.

I've always loved the Marauder Slayers and have slowly collected them from ebay (having sold my originals many moons ago) and I've only made a few small conversions to some which I picked up that were already damaged. I decided to use a range of different palid skin tones (washed onto a white undercoat) and brighter colours for their hair to create a chaotic looking group.

When I have time I'd like to add some tattoos too.

And here they are all together (bloody pain to rank up!).

Eventually these will become part of my Chaos Allies (another 6 to be added to make the magical Nurgle 14) as Chaos Dwarf Beserkers, but that is a long time in the future behind many other bright ideas I have....
